West Ham United – Newcastle United
West Ham United hosts Newcastle United at the London Stadium in a match from the first round of the Premier League. Here is our preview for this match in the English capital.
West Ham’s manager David Moyes did his job last season and helped the club keep its place in the Premier League. It was not easy by any means, but Moyes’ used his experience and prepared his team for the key battles at the end of the campaign. He deserves compliments for this.
The Hammers did only one transfer during the pre-season, but it was a good one. The club paid 16 million euro to Slavia Prague for the Czech defensive midfielder Tomas Soucek. His job will be to strenghten the team’s midfield line and we are pretty sure his signing could be a positive effect for West Ham.
Newcastle United also surprised a lot of people when they survived the 2019/20 even without much of investment in the squad. That’s why experience is so important to managers – Steve Bruce proved he can do it even without any stars in the team.
What Newcastle United did on the transfer market this summer? They made two signings. The club paid more than 22 million euro to Bournemouth for the striker Callum Wilson, while Norwich City’s Jamal Lewis was also signed. It doesn’t look like much, but how we know Newcastle are not having much money for new signings at the moment.
The Magpies’ fans were dissapointed when the rumoured deal with Arab investors broke down. There were hopes Newcastle would suddenly turn into one of England’s richest clubs, but at the end they remain under the ownership of Mike Ashley.
For both West Ham United and Newcastle United it would be important to start their seasons in a positie way. We believe both clubs would be in a fight for survival, so every point would be crucial for them.
