Schalke 04 – Augsburg

Schalke 04 welcomes Augsburg at the Veltins-Arena in a fixture from the 27th round of the Bundesliga.

What Schalke will try to do here is get back on their feet after a very serious 0-4 defeat in the Ruhr derby against Borussia Dortmund last week. The manager David Wagner was obviously dissapointed with the performance of his team at the Signal Iduna Park. The Royal Blues didn’t show much of a good shape after the COVID-19 pandemic break, which led to this bad performance.

The Barcelona loanee Jean-Clair Todibo started for Schalke against Dortmund, but the young French defender left the pitch with an injury at the halftime break. Todibo won’t be avaliable for the next game on Sunday.

Schalke 04 need to step up their game because they won just two points in the last five rounds of the Bundesliga. After last week the Royal Blues fell to 8th place in the standings with 37 points won. They still have time to change the way they perform and finish in the Top 6 eventually.

Augsburg lost for a fourth consecutive time in the league last week. Heiko Herrlich’s debut as a manager went badly as his team hosted Wolfsburg, but got beaten with 1-2 at the WWK Arena. Tim Jedvaj scored Augsburg’s only goal in the game, but it didn’t help the hosts to get at least a draw in the match.

Heiko Herrlich’s task is to raise Augsburg’s performance, but it does not look easy at the moment. The team is not in the best shape possible, so Herrlich will need some extra efforts here.

In conclusion we can say that Schalke 04 are favourites against Augsburg, even if we accept that the Royal Blues are not in their best shape, too. Let’s see how David Wagner and his boys will respond to the Ruhr derby defeat a week ago.
