Mainz 05 – Bayern Munich

Mainz 05 hosts the champion Bayern Munich at the Opel Arena in a game from the 20th round of the Bundesliga.

For the hosts this season is just another fight for survival. Mainz 05 are currently 15th in the standings with 18 points won, but they can’t feel too comfortable, because the 17th Paderborn and the relegation zone are just three points away. At the Opel Arena they are aware that they could find themselves pretty quickly beneath the line, if they don’t have enough consistency.

It’s hard to say that Mainz’ current shape is any good. In their last five games in the Bundesliga they lost four times, their 5-0 win over Werder in Bremen being the only positive result. Right now Mainz are in a run of three consecutive losses in the league, which moved them even closer to the dangerous zone.

Against the champion Mainz 05 can’t use Stefan Bell, who is sidelined with an injury.

No surprise, Bayern Munich are once again hunting for the title. Right now the Bavarians are second in the standings with 39 points, but the top is not really that far – the champions are just one point behind the leader RB Leipzig.

Bayern Munich’s current shape is the best in the Bundesliga, because they won all of their last five games in the league. With a performance like this, Bayern’s caretaker Hans-Dieter Flick is making his point – maybe he will sign a contract for the next season as well?

In the previous round Bayern Munich showed once again their firepower. The champions hosted Schalke 04 and crushed David Wagner’s team with 5-0 at the Allianz Arena. Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller, Leon Goretzka, Thiago and Serge Gnabry scored for the hosts. Bayern Munich scored 9 goals in their last two Bundesliga games.

That’s our preview for the Bundesliga clash between Mainz 05 and Bayern Munich on Saturday. Can FC Hollywood take the top of the league this weekend? We shall see.
