Bayern Munich – Hoffenheim
The holder of the trophy Bayern Munich hosts Hoffenheim at the Allianz Arena in a match from the 1/8-finals of the DFB Pokal.
Bayern Munich are flawless in the competition so far. In the previous round the Bavarians travelled to face Bochum and it was quite dramatic experience for them, because until the 83th minute Bochum were actually one goal ahead in the result. Bayern Munich escaped this dangerous situation in the last 7 minutes of the match when Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller turned the game in their favour.
Some things are different for Bayern Munich now, because Niko Kovac is no more the head coach. His successor Hans-Dieter Flick is doing a good job, because on Saturday Bayern returned at the top of the Bundesliga. They beat Mainz 05 and managed to overtake RB Leipzig at the first place.
Hans-Dieter Flick’s problems at the moment are related to the injuries of Niklas Sule, Javi Martinez and Lucas Hernandez, who are recovering.
Hoffenheim qualified for the 1/8-finals of the DFB Pokal after a clear 2-0 win over Duisburg away from home in October. The first half in Duisburg went without any goals being scored, but after the break Hoffe clinched the win with goals from Florian Grillitsch and Sargis Adamyan.
For Hoffenheim it is a somehow inconsistent season for the club in the Bundesliga. Hoffe were struggling with their performance until recently, but they won four of their last five matches and this helped them to reach the Top 7 again. On Saturday Alfred Schreuder’s team had a difficult test against Bayer Leverkusen, but they enjoyed a 2-1 win at home.
Bayern Munich are the red hot favourite against Hoffenheim in this match from the DFB Pokal on Wednesday. Of course, all kind of surprises are possible in these cup competitions, but it’s Bayern’s game to lose.
