Aston Villa – Manchester City

Aston Villa and Manchester City face each other at the Wembley on Sunday in the final of the English Carabao Cup. Man City won the trophy in the previous two seasons, so now the Cityzens will once again try to defend the title. As for Aston Villa – for them this is a really rare chance to win a trophy in the recent years.

Aston Villa surprised a lot of people when they eliminated Leicester City in the 1/2-finals of the Carabao Cup, qualifying for the final. For the club from Birmingham this is a chance to win a first trophy since 1996, when they won the League Cup. They have won the competition five times in total.

Contrary to the fact that Villa reached the Carabao Cup final the team continues to struggle in the Premier League, being 17th in the standings and very close to the relegation zone. Surviving in the Prem remains a priority for Aston Villa, but we don’t have any doubts that they will make a strong push for the trophy.

Manchester City won the Carabao Cup twice under the management of Pep Guardiola, so for the Catalan manager this is a chance to win the competition for a third consecutive season. This season the Cityzens won’t be able to defend their Premier League title as they already lost the race with Liverpool, so for them every chance for a trophy at this moment is important. You can be sure that Guardiola will use his best team on Sunday in order to add another trophy to his rich collection of prizes.

During the 1/2-finals Manchester City faced their local rival Manchester United and went through after 3-2 in both games. City lost the second game at the Etihad, but a 3-1 win at the Old Trafford secured them a place in the final.

Can Aston Villa cause an upset againts Manchester City on Sunday? In a final everything is possible, but we really favour Man City to win the trophy here.
