Southampton – Liverpool

Southampton hosts Liverpool in a clash from the second round of the Premier League. The Saints will face the European champion on Saturday and they are the clear underdog in this clash. But let’s not be too quick to write them off.

Southampton didn’t start the new season in the way they wanted. The Saints visited Burnley in a match from the first round of the league, but suffered a heavy 0-3 defeat at the Turf Moor. It was 0-0 after an hour of playing, but in the last half an hour Burnley dominated and crushed their opponent. Ashley Barnes scored a brace for Burnley, while Johann Gudhmundsson added a third goal for Sean Dyche’s side.

Now Southampton will have another tough task against the reigning European champion, but they don’t have no choice – they need to to do their best in order to win first points for the new season.

As for Liverpool, the Reds had an amazing start of the campaign. Jurgen Klopp’s team hosted the newcomer Norwich City at the Anfield and enjoyed a solid 4-1 win. The match started with an own goal by Norwich’s Grant Hanley, which was followed by goals from Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Divock Origi.

Jurgen Klopp’s main problem at the moment is the injury of the Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson. He got injured in the match against Norwich, so at the St. Mary’s he’s going to be replaced by the summer signing Adrian.

Another problem for Liverpool is the fact that on Wednesday they played against Chelsea for the European Super Cup in Istanbul. Because of this, there would be some lack of freshness in the squad. Klopp has to find a way to deal with this, so maybe some other players will get a shot to start.

Liverpool are favourites against Southampton, but it won’t be easy for them. Especially given the fact that they had to play for the Super Cup on Wednesday.
